How do small Unicode letters work?

Small text generators use a collection of special Unicode characters that happen to look raised, lowered or compact. Superscript places many letters and digits high, making short footnotes and labels look tiny. Subscript offers lower-positioned characters but supports fewer letters. Small Caps uses capital-like shapes at a reduced visual height.

These styles have limitations: Unicode does not provide a matching superscript or subscript for every Latin letter, and different fonts display characters at slightly different sizes. Unsupported symbols stay unchanged rather than being silently deleted.

For mathematical or scientific documents, use your editor’s proper superscript and subscript formatting when possible. Decorative copy-and-paste text is most useful for short messages and casual labels, not for technical notation.

GOOD TO KNOW

Frequently asked questions

Why are some small letters normal size?

A direct Unicode replacement does not exist for every letter. We leave unsupported characters in place so your words are not lost.

Can I use small text in my bio?

You may be able to paste it into profile descriptions or short posts. The destination service decides which characters it accepts.

What is the difference between superscript and subscript?

Superscript characters sit above the usual baseline, while subscript characters sit below it. The available Unicode alphabets are incomplete.

Is the small text generator free?

Yes. It runs in your browser and does not require an account.
